Our Firm’s History

The Payne Law Group was originally founded in 1949 by John M. Lawrence, III, under the name Cocke and Lawrence. Since that time, the firm has been continuously engaged in the business of providing legal advice and representation to the residents of the Brazos Valley.

Our firm is now one of the largest law firms in Brazos County and has a law practice that extends well beyond the local area and into state and federal courts throughout the State of Texas.
