What Derek Enjoys About Practicing Law

I enjoy working with clients on their estate planning issues, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other incapacity planning documents; probate and administration of estates; guardianship; formation, maintenance, purchase and sales of corporations, limited liability companies, general and limited partnerships; and real estate. I always like working with individuals and families assisting them in preparing their planning to accomplish their goals.

Derek’s Experience

As a lawyer, I have represented clients with their estate planning needs since August of 1995. You will be impressed by the compassion, respect, and personal attention my colleagues and I give our clients in every single case in each practice area.

I graduated Cum Laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and The University of Texas with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.

Derek's Personal Story

I was born in Lubbock, Texas, and moved with my family to College Station in 1980. I joined Payne Law Group in August 1995 after graduating from The University of Texas Law School.

I am happily married to my wife Holly. We have two daughters, Grace and Emily. I enjoy gardening and am an avid reader of mystery, suspense, and science fiction.
