Meet Attorney Walter Campbell. Mr. Campbell has been with The Payne Law Group in Bryan for many years where he practices banking law, contract law, and real estate law.
What Walter Enjoys About Practicing Law
Real estate is my area of interest. I represent buyers, sellers, lenders, and title companies in negotiating contracts preparing loan documents, and clearing title for residential and commercial real estate transactions.
My legal career began as a litigation attorney defending individuals who had been sued in connection with automobile accidents. Although I enjoyed defending people from claims against them, the litigation practice did not match up with my personality. After approximately five years in litigation, I traded the courtroom for the closing rooms.
In 1995 I had the opportunity to switch to real estate law representing a large Texas mortgage lender. In 2002, I became a shareholder in Lawyers Title Company of Brazos County, and I never looked back. I enjoy representing individuals purchasing and selling homes and commercial property.
I represent Texas and out of state lenders, preparing the necessary loan documents for Texas residential loan transactions. I also prepare documents for local and national title agencies to clear up any title issues that may arise when issuing title policies to lenders and/or purchasers.
Walter’s Experience
I have practiced in the field of real estate law since 1995. I represent clients in all aspects of real estate transactions, from small vacant lot deals to complex multi-million-dollar commercial transactions. I have represented: buyers, sellers, builders, lenders, title companies, and realtors. Being a real estate investor myself, a shareholder in The Payne Law Group and in Lawyers Title Company of Brazos County has been a perfect match for my real estate legal practice. These associations have allowed me to experience real estate transactions from start to finish and to fully understand all aspects of a real estate transaction.

Walter's Personal Story
I grew up in the small west Texas town of Fort Stockton. I lived in El Dorado, Texas until I was 6, and then my family moved to Fort Stockton where I attended school. My mother continues to live there today.
I attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics. After undergraduate school, I attended law school at The University of Texas in Austin and received my Doctor of Jurisprudence in May of 1987.
Upon graduation, I moved to Houston where I practiced law at Lorance and Thompson, P.C., a large insurance defense firm. In 1988, I met my wife Carrie, a court reporter, while taking a deposition. We married in 1990 and moved to Bryan/College Station in 1991. We love living in the Brazos Valley and feel very fortunate that we were able to raise our son and daughter here in this community.
For years I spent most of my free time volunteering for the organizations that my children were involved in:
- Christ United Methodist Church (Board of Directors, Church Council, Board of Stewards and Chairman of the Youth Ministry)
- Brazos County 4-H (Adult Leader and Treasurer for the county and district organizations)
- Brazos County Youth Livestock Show (President, Chairman of the Board, and Committee Chair)
- Texas 4-H Foundation (Board Member)
- Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (Member since 1988)
- Elementary, Middle School, Junior High, and High School clubs and organizations
I still remain very active as a volunteer with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, having served on five committees (serving as Chairman of two committees) and as a member of the local Brazos County Area Go Texan Committee. My wife and I have always enjoyed going on mission trips with our children and continue to volunteer for international mission opportunities through Faith in Practice in Guatemala.
